Wax figures

No, this is not a wax museum, the Madame Tussaud of Tbilissi. These people are made of flesh and bones. They look like this because they are playing their own role in a traditional religious ceremony. The bridegroom is wearing the traditional georgian costume (a wedding version of it, in white and gold) while the bride wears a contemporary wedding dress with no particular dress code, except that they both wear the traditional georgian wedding crowns.

As I walked in by chance in the basement of that big church along the Rustaveli Avenue on a sunday afternoon,  a wedding ceremony was going on. The couple stood incredibly still under the photographers flashes for a long time while the priest was reading, turning their back to them. I had to stay until I saw them blinking to believe they were real.

Somehow it reminded me of  the wedding Prince William of England and Katherine where they all look like Walt Disney cartoons.

Is there such thing as a traditional georgian costume or is it just a cartoonish idea?
